Your Neighborhood Experts: Partnering With Lydia’s House

“Lydia’s House started with two people, a single dream… and a sack of potatoes. “

Over the past year, the MG Residential team has partnered up with Lydia’s House Homeownership Class to present invaluable information regarding the home buying process during the real estate portion of the course.  Taking a holistic approach to community development, Lydia’s House offers social services, emotional support, and educational resources that address the needs of low-income and at-risk families, specifically starting in and catering to the Anacostia neighborhoods (Ward 7 and 8).  The MG Residential team has been happy to continually partner with Lydia’s House and their Home-ownership Class and other events, effectively sharing a similar mission of Transforming Lives, Communities, and Careers  Through  Real Estate.

MG Buyer Specialists Marie Claire Ntam and Daniel Walcott have been leading the Real Estate portion of the classes. During the class, our two Realtors have presented the responsibilities of a real estate agent, types of agencies (dual/single), how to find the right agent, and they go over what a contract would look like. At the end of their portion, they finish up with an always well received Q&A session, further discussing any unanswered inquiries. Here’s what they thought about it the class overall:

“The class is very informative, Lydia’s House leaves no stone unturned- in depth information is provided by experts from financing, home inspection, title, realtor, insurance to wealth creation and legacy.  It’s rewarding to be a part of a platform which empowers homebuyers with all of the information they need so they can make the best decision for their families.”
-Marie Claire Ntam

This is a great class that provides high-level information about the home buying process to equip FTHBs with the knowledge they need to make an informed decision. It’s such a rewarding expereince to spend time with these motivated individual when helping them get closer to their dreams.
-Daniel Walcott

With 4 successful homebuyers under their belts, Marie Claire and Daniel are looking forward to, hopefully, doubling that number by the end of the year.

We are excited to further partner with Lydia’s House, this Saturday, for their “Community Day” where we will have a booth and hand out over 60 stuffed backpacks for the Back-to-School efforts highlighting this event.

Founded as a non-profit organization in 1990, Lydia’s House began their mission in 1989. Founders Pastors Eugene and Patrice Sheppard began their work shortly after relocating to Bellevue with the intention of making a difference in the lives of Washington, DC’s poorest men, women, and children. For almost 30 years, Lydia’s House has upheld their mission of Growing Children, Strengthening Families and Changing Neighborhoods.
