Community Support

The following are some of our sponsored organizations and events:

The YouthBuild Public Charter School serves young people ages 16-24 who have dropped out of traditional high schools. At YouthBuild, students transform their communities by building housing for homeless or low-income families as they learn the construction trade, and they transform themselves as they prepare to earn their high school diploma or GED. This year our Keller Williams office made a $10,000.00 donation to the organization.

"The Higher Achievement Program closes the achievement gap by offering motivated middle school students from under-served areas an opportunity-rich, nationally recognized year-round educational and high school preparatory program. The program, held after school and during the summer, culminates in top high school placement. Each year, Higher Achievement helps almost 500 children achieve academic excellence. Grades improve, test scores improve, and academic behaviors are fostered through a program that works." The Menkiti Group makes annual contributions to this organization and Bo Menkiti serves on the Board of Directors for HAP.

The Brookland Day Festival is an annual community celebration put on by the Brookland CDC, an organization dedicated to "promoting the arts and protecting and capitalizing on the cultural resources of the neighborhood for the purpose of building community pride and fostering responsible economic development." Mary Hodges serves as the Promotions Committee Chair for the organization and helped plan the festival, which was co-sponsored by the Menkiti Group. The festival featured a parade, various musical and dance performances, booths with nonprofit organizations, local businesses, and arts and crafts exhibitors. Hundreds of neighbors and friends came out to celebrate the vibrant Brookland Community during this great fall festival.
GreenHOME is dedicated to promoting "environmentally-sensitive housing and believes it is especially important for those with modest incomes who most need the savings on utilities and maintenance that efficiently designed housing affords. It demonstrates and promotes affordable, sustainable design, construction, and landscape practices for homes and communities throughout the Washington, DC area and is committed to expanding awareness of green practices beyond its buildings, into the community of homeowners, home renters, home builders, and the general public." The Menkiti Group makes annual financial
contributions to GreenHOME, and Bo Menkiti also serves on the Board of Directors.
Dance Place is a Brookland based theatre and dance school dedicated to the mission of "transforming lives through performing arts and creative education programs that inspire personal growth, professional success, physical wellness and community engagement." Bo Menkiti recently began serving on the Board of Directors.
Woodridge Warriors Athletic Association is a neighborhood nonprofit organization that coordinates sports leagues and tutoring programs for area youth. The Menkiti Group co-sponsored this year's fall homecoming.
